Digital health and formality

Authors: Ahu Çırlak, Dilan Gökdemir

Abstract

Digital health technologies have brought about a profound transformation in the healthcare sector, making service delivery more accessible, efficient, and sustainable. Artificial intelligence, electronic health records, telehealth, mobile health applications, and wearable technologies enhance patient care processes and support healthcare professionals in decision- making. The digitalization process has significantly impacted nursing practices, necessitating the effective use of technology in patient care. Although digital health applications offer numerous advantages, challenges such as access to technology, lack of training, data security concerns, and costs persist. Equipping healthcare professionals with digital skills is crucial for the effective and sustainable implementation of digital health systems. The integration of digital health technologies reduces nurses' workload, enhances the quality of patient care, and contributes to the more efficient functioning of healthcare systems. However, for this transformation to be successful, both technical and educational infrastructures must be strengthened. Digital health offers a patient-centered, data-driven, and scientifically grounded transformation in nursing practices, ensuring its continued role as a fundamental component of healthcare services in the future.

General approach to vertigo in primary care

Authors: Rauf Oğuzhan Kum

Abstract

Vertigo and dizziness accounts for approximately 5% of primary care visits. Differentiating vertigo from other types of dizziness symptoms, such as syncope, imbalance, or lightheadedness, is crucial for accurate diagnosis. In younger patients, vertigo is often caused by inner ear pathology. In older adults, targeted assessment is critical, as central causes, which can lead to increased morbidity and mortality, are more common in this population. This review discusses diagnostic approaches to more effectively differentially diagnose vertigo in primary care settings.

The effects of obstetric fistula on women's health

Authors: Sıla Gül, Şenay Topuz

Abstract

Obstetric fistula is a health problem, especially in developing countries, which occurs as a result of prolonged obstructed labour and creates an abnormal connection between organs such as the vagina, bladder and rectum. This condition is not only limited to physical health problems, but also causes psychological and social problems. Due to fistula, women face difficulties such as infections, urinary and faecal incontinence, sexual dysfunctions and social isolation. In developing countries, the reasons for the prevalence of obstetric fistula include inadequate health infrastructure, lack of trained birth attendants and limited access to medical interventions. Strategies such as increasing access to maternity care services, preventing early marriage, raising public awareness and family planning are necessary to prevent this condition. Treatment is usually by surgical intervention and successful treatment results in a significant improvement in women's quality of life. In addition, women's participation in social life is supported through community reintegration processes.

Health tourism in Turkey

Authors: Özgür Öztan, Rukiye Numanoğlu Tekin

Abstract

Over the past two decades, the service sector has experienced rapid development and has become one of the most significant driving forces behind economic growth. As a rapidly expanding component of both the healthcare and tourism industries, Health Tourism holds great importance in terms of public health and the economic development of countries. In this high value-added sector, countries are in competition to attract health tourists. Globally, approximately 14 million people travel each year to receive healthcare services. The major advancements in the healthcare sector—driven by the development of advanced medical technologies and non-invasive surgical procedures—stand out as key factors contributing to the global rise of health tourism. Turkey ranks among the top 10 countries worldwide in the health tourism sector. With high quality of services, accessibility, and relatively low-cost offerings compared to many other countries, Turkey attracts health tourists from all over the world.
