People Haydar Sur

Haydar Sur, MD,
Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur was born in Konya in 1961. He graduated from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1986. He completed his mandatory service as the Deputy Director of Health in the province of Muş. In 1988, he assumed responsibilities related to vaccination and the fight against infectious diseases at the Department of Infectious Diseases in the Central Organization of the Ministry of Health. In 1989, he was appointed to the Istanbul Health Directorate and served as the Deputy Director until 1996.

In 1994, he obtained a Master's degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and in 1996, he earned a Ph.D. in Public Health from Istanbul University Institute of Health Sciences. In 1996, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Health Management at Marmara University.


In 1998, he obtained the title of Associate Professor in Public Health, and in 2003, he achieved the rank of Professor in Health Management. Throughout the entire 14 years at Marmara University Faculty of Health Sciences, he served as the Department Chair, eight years as the Vice Dean, and one year as the Acting Dean.

In 2009, he joined Istanbul University and was tasked with establishing the Faculty of Health Sciences. He served as the Founding Dean and the Department Chair of Health Management until March 2014.

In 2014, he retired from government service and became one of the founders of Biruni University. Until the end of 2015, he held the positions of Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Biruni University.


In 2016, Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur took on the role of Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Department Chair of Health Management at Uskudar University. After serving in this capacity for three years, he was entrusted with the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine at Uskudar University. Assuming the position of Dean, he successfully established the faculty and currently holds the positions of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Head of the Department of Public Health, and Department Chair of Health Management.

Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur has been involved in 27 national and international projects. He has contributed as an author, editor, and/or chapter author in a total of 35 books. He has published over 70 articles indexed by international journals, presented over 50 international papers, published over 70 articles in national peer-reviewed journals, and written over 150 articles in national journals. As of July 2023, he has supervised 23 doctoral theses and 47 master's theses.

His academic interests include epidemiology, health systems and policies, biostatistics, human resource management in healthcare, and quality management in healthcare. In recent years, he has focused intensively on the subject of humane sciences in medicine.
